Different Types Sheet Metal Brakes

Industries need different types of machinery to manufacture their products. One such machinery is a sheet metal brake used to bend the metal to the desired shape. If you require to bend the sheet metal, the best option is a sheet metal brake.

Important parts of Sheet Metal Brake

Sheet metal brake is made of three major components. They are

  1. Clamp: It fixes the metal sheet firmly while bending it so that it won’t move. It helps in making perfect bents in the sheet.
  2. Bending Plate: The metal sheet is placed on it during the process.
  3. Lever: It is used to lift the bending plate until the desired bend angle is achieved.

Different types of Sheet metal Brakes

Sheet metal brakes differ based on their operational abilities. Some can just make creases or folds at the sheet metal’s edge. Some are engaged in making complex bends and forms from sheet metals.

Cornice Brake: Large sheet metals can be handled on this brake. The sheet is fixed to the flat surface with a clamping bar. The bending leaf forces the sheet over the clamping bar to get the sheet into the shape. It can make precise bends effectively at the edges of the sheet metal panels. This brake can only make limited forms or bends.

Box and Pan Brake (Finger Brake): It is used to make complex forms and bends like boxes and pans that cannot be made on a cornice brake or a straight brake. This machinery consists of changeable finger-like structures. These structures can be manipulated based on the shape and size of the boxes to be produced. These brakes can be used for making complex bends that cannot be attained in a cornice brake. This type can make stepped designs also.

Press Brake: Compared to other brakes, these brakes can be much more complex and produce more complicated bends in sheet metals. The sheet is bent, fixing it with a clamp and pressing between the complimentary punch and die. This press brake tooling makes it more selective for the sheet metal workers.

The different types of dies are

● V dies

● 90⁰ dies

● Hemming dies

● Curling dies

Always rely on a trusted source when procuring sheet metal brakes or other tooling requirements.
