Be familiar with your machine:
One of the basic rules of press brake tooling in Australia is to be familiar with the press brake machine before using it. The press brake operator has to be knowledgeable about the maintenance history of the machine, safety precautions to be followed, and the right way of operating it. The operator should be aware of how to start the machine; get it warmed, or programed, and make adjustments for any issues that may hinder its successful operation. Today advanced machines bought by press brake manufacturers and offline software have made the setting up process less complicated and cost-effective.
Be knowledgeable about the press brake tooling system:
A successful press brake operator has good knowledge about varied press brake tools forming tasks that may require either basic tools or highly precise ones. They should be able to use the pates tool for the task on hand. Also, they should know when the tooling needs to be replaced or adjusted for wear and tear.
Be knowledgeable on the material you are using:
Different materials react differently due to differences in thickness despite being chemically identical. For example, an 18-Gauge metal sheet reacts differently than a 16-Gauge sheet. Springback varies, yield strength and stretchability vary, and the tooling required varies. Hence, in addition to knowing the machine and the press brake tooling system, a good press brake operator knows how each material will behave while they are on the task.
Be knowledgeable on the revisions:
A press brake operator has to develop closely similar parts but with varying part revisions. The press brake operator must know what part print and revision they should work on; before beginning their task for a successful press brake forming.
The above are basic pointers to be kept in mind for completing a press brake operation most successfully!
